Programmatically defined as a world-class research facility for technology, innovation, therapeutics, robotics and artificial intelligence, Hyde Park Labs is a mixed-use office and lab development that reflects the ongoing commitment of the University of Chicago to enhancing the quality of life for the mid-South Side as well as the University community. The project modifies existing improvements by amplifying the connection of the block to the neighborhood and of the neighborhood to the city.
The 5th floor amenity deck is accessible for public use and explores a sense of place through new connections between the immediate neighborhood, Lake Michigan and the Loop. The flexible space is designed to be both contemplative and communal. Spaces are designed to accommodate year-round daytime and night-time use and feature communal tables, quiet stations, movable seating, shade and ball play offerings as well as grills and firepits.
On the street level, improved pedestrian amenities welcome and revitalize community utilization. Native planting links the active hub with nearby Harold Washington Park and the historical ecologies of the site.
