Montauk Sofa

Montauk Sofa’s vision of exceptional design and quality, rooted in sustainability and a connection to nature, faced an immediate challenge at its new West Loop showroom. The 150-year-old site, originally built as a horse stable, had become densely overgrown. Its location along a busy corridor beneath an elevated train track further complicated construction access.

As a practical solution, Greenprint used hügelkultur, a centuries-old technique of mounding compostable plant material. This method quickly created a viable growing medium while avoiding the high costs and extended labor associated with demolition, excavation, debris removal, soil import and irrigation. During construction, special care was taken to protect and integrate the original trees that embody the site’s history.

Today, visitors enter through a verdant threshold of sculpted hillocks, where a refined palette of colors and textures reflects Montauk’s hand-crafted aesthetic. The lush, flexible space showcases its luxury outdoor furniture and serves as an event venue that fosters connections with clients and neighbors.
